Lucia Trifan was born in Romania in 1949 in Vrancea County and graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Brasov, with a degree in sculpture and ceramics. She arrived in Saint Martin, in the Caribbean, in 1984, and became a permanent resident.

She has had numerous personal and group exhibitions in Paris, Amsterdam, New York, Venezuela, etc., and many of her works are part of important collections.

Art is an integral part of her biography, and her personal history is written and described in her works. We find exoticism, colors, themes specific to the wonderful paradise and sea islands, and sometimes painful expressions of the creative process, an implicit part of the artist’s existence.

Using very elaborate techniques, most of the times laid on the floor, with a skill that surpasses the simple handling of the brush, Lucia Trifan conveys to the viewer a complex of states and emotions springing from the contemplation of landscapes, constellations, marine life, colors seasons, gardens, etc. Her generous works call for the discovery of the shapes and colors of the entire universe; the explosions of red, blue, green – are part of a pictorial world, in continuous motion, in which the color strives for unification with form, according to ordering rational principles.

After 40 years of absence, Lucia Trifan returns to Romania to exhibit. For this exhibition, she sent 40 works. While in Romania, Hurricane Irma, then Hurricane Jose, then the one named Maria, devastated her beloved island. And they destroyed her workshop, along with the works that remained there. The 40, sent to Romania, were saved.

“What I did in life … I have the satisfied soul. (…) Painting was the pleasure of the soul. That’s what I fed. With my work, “ says Lucia Trifan.

Romană Art Gallery invites you to the opening ceremony of the Lucia Trifan exhibition on Tuesday, October 17, at 19.00, Lascăr Catargiu  Blvd. 1, sector 1, Romană Square, Bucharest.
